  • What should I do if my AC is blowing but not blowing cold air?

If you have air coming out of your vents but it’s not cold, you should turn your thermostat off completely. Keeping the AC turned on when it’s not blowing cold air can cause your unit to freeze up, which can exacerbate the issue and cause further damage to your condenser.

If our air conditioning service technician arrives and the unit is frozen, there isn’t much we can do until it thaws out. Keep in mind that it is recommended that you replace your HVAC system after 10 years for maximum efficiency, according to the Department of Energy.

If you're in need of a durable, quality HVAC system, call Climate Control Experts today!

  • How do I make the air in my vents blow harder?

There are several factors that cause airflow issues. Here are some helpful things you can do to address them:

    1. Change your filters, as a dirty filter causes airflow restriction and damages your unit.
    2. Rinse off your outside condenser. Outside condensers can accumulate dust, dirt, and other debris that restricts airflow. Keeping your condenser rinsed off and free of debris can improve airflow and extend your condenser’s life.
    3. Have a licensed air conditioning and heating technician do an air balance. Sometimes, making minor changes to the ductwork or adding some dampers help with the airflow.
  • How often do I need to change my filters?

Some filters require changing every month, however, some pleated filters can be changed once every four months. There are larger filters for allergy defenders that only need to be changed once every six months or every year.

In the case that you or others in the household have pets or issues with dust/allergies, it may be a good habit to change your filters more often than the suggested manufacturer’s guidelines.

Check your manufacturing guidelines or contact one of our knowledgeable air conditioning and heating technicians for recommendations.

  • What is the proper indoor humidity?

The optimal range for indoor humidity is right around 35% relative humidity. If your home is within the 30-40% range, you should feel comfortable and safe from the risks that high humidity presents.

Checking for condensation inside the windows will help you determine your home's humidity level. Condensation indicates relatively high humidity in your home. You'll want to adjust your thermostat to achieve lower humidity, as high humidity levels create an ideal growing environment for mold.

  • How often should my HVAC system be maintenanced?

We recommend a tune-up at the beginning of spring prior to using your AC unit, and a tune-up in the fall before using your heater. These checks will ensure that your systems are properly operating at peak efficiency.
